Ponce

On Day two, we went to La Mercada, which happened to be one of the most run-down, disappointing things Rachel or I had ever seen. Without removing the camera from the bag, we headed back to the car and returned to the hotel as quickly as possible.

After looking over the tour book again, we found where the historic center was, and went there, figuring it had to be better than La Mercada, and we didn't want to waste the entire first day of our trip, as it was only five days long.

Fortunately, the historic center was really beautiful, dating back to the 17th century. This first picture was of the historic firehouse, unveiled in 1883 for the World's Fair (I'm guessing the fair was in Spain, not Puerto Rico).

Nearby, there was a nice fountain, with a statue of someone. Likely, someone famous.

We walked around some more, and came to the local church, which was really beautiful.

And right across the street from the church was a building with two of the neatest doors I've ever seen. Though I have no idea what the building actually is for...

I handed my camera off to a nice gentleman, also a tourist, as I wanted to get a picture of Rachel and myself in the park. Unfortunately, he didn't understand what I meant by "the inner ring is the zoom." By the way, that's the church in the background.
